Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of Uganda’s most iconic destinations, offering an unparalleled wildlife experience. Located in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley, Bwindi is known for its mist-shrouded hills and ancient rainforest, one of the oldest in Uganda, dating back over 25,000 years. Famed for its population of mountain gorillas, Bwindi is home to an estimated 459 of these majestic creatures, accounting for nearly half of the world’s population. Among these, several groups are habituated for trekking, including the Mubare gorilla group, which was the first to be available for tourism in 1993. Currently, nine gorilla groups are available for tourism, and one is dedicated to research.

In addition to gorillas, Bwindi’s lush forests are home to 120 species of mammals, including chimpanzees, baboons, elephants, and antelopes. The park is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with around 350 bird species, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics. For butterfly enthusiasts, Bwindi shelters over 200 species, eight of which are Albertine Rift endemics, alongside a variety of reptiles.

The park’s surrounding areas, particularly Buhoma and Nkuringo, offer an array of accommodations ranging from luxury lodges to rustic bandas and budget campsites.
